About Us

A Journey Crafted Over Decades

The story of Mesa Coffee Company began in 2004 with our family-owned coffee house, Bean Cycle Roasters, nestled in Fort Collins, Colorado. Guided by a desire to deepen our craft, we relocated in 2019 to the high desert of Marfa, Texas, immersing ourselves in its thriving, visionary artist community. It was there that our roasting philosophy truly matured. Building upon this rich, layered foundation, Mesa Coffee Company found its permanent home in Grand Junction, Colorado, in 2024.

The Collective Chain

Co-founded by Coleman and Lesley, our company is built on a simple, powerful belief: coffee is a collective chain, connecting farmers to drinkers in one continuous story. We understand that every bag of coffee we roast is deeply tied back to the specific soil, climate, and culture of its origin. We source exceptional coffee from dedicated growers who care profoundly for their crops, and we honor that hard work by handling every bean with meticulous care.

Roasted with Intention

Our deep investment in quality and sustainability is the driving force behind our choice to roast exclusively in small batches. This approach eliminates overproduction while ensuring strict quality control. Our ultimate goal is to craft consistent, accessible coffees that make your home brewing experience both simple and deeply enjoyable.

Because we focus heavily on the intrinsic, natural qualities of the bean, you won’t find traditional light, medium, or dark roast classifications on our labels.

Instead, we roast with absolute uniformity to optimize even heat development throughout the bean—preventing uneven roasts, baked profiles, or bitter roast byproducts. Every coffee we offer features a custom roast profile engineered to highlight pure flavor clarity. This deliberate style maximizes natural sweetness and vibrant fruit tones, leaving you with a beautifully rich, juicy finish in every cup.

How We Roast

We roast each lot in small batches to bring out what the farmer, the variety, and the process already put there, so every coffee gets its own roast in lieu of a light or dark label.

01

Farmer

Every coffee here is traceable to the people who grew it, whether that is one family on a single hectare or a group of several thousand smallholders delivering cherry to a shared washing station.

02

Variety

Variety is the plant itself, and it sets the ceiling on what a coffee can taste like. Typica, Bourbon, Caturra, Mundo Novo and Catuaí all show up in what we buy.

03

Process

Process is what happens to the cherry after picking. Washed coffees are pulped and fermented, which tends to read clean and bright. Honey coffees keep some fruit on the bean while it dries.
